One of my favorite parts of my job is the creative freedom afforded to my clients. When it comes to fabrics and designs, the possibilities are endless! Of course, I am willing to help and advise wherever needed, and sometimes my clients’ unique ideas open up some very neat opportunities for me.

Recently I had the pleasure of redesigning a living room for one of my favorite clients. One of the largest parts of the project was creating ten individual pillows using different combinations of the fabrics and trims she selected for the room.

In the workroom we started with 10 fabrics, 6 trims, and the goal to design 10 entirely unique pillows using all the materials. The first part of the project was matching fabrics and trims to different pillow designs.

Some of our ideas looked like this:

Workroom 2Each pillow took a minimum of 1.5 hours to design and sew. First I had to decide on the style – patchwork, harlequin banding, diamond center, color blocks, pennants, etc. Next it was time to pick the fabrics for each pillow. To create variety, I tried to keep each combination unique to that individual pillow. Lastly, I picked out the trim and figured out its place on the pillow. Only then could we start sewing it together!

Once they were done, we stuffed the pillow covers with inserts and they were ready to go!

Ready to GoThere were so many pillows, each more beautiful than the last! I couldn’t wait to show them to my client. Finally it was instillation day. Along with constructing these pillows, we designed Roman Shades, reupholstered an ottoman, and added trim to existing drapes. By the time we finished, it was a whole new room.

Here’s what the completed pillows look like. I can’t pick my favorite pillow. Can you?
